Florecer draws on the color, joy, and warmth I have experienced during my time in Mexico. The fading paint of houses in Mexico City’s Roma, with romantic shades of yellow and turquoise caught in the shadows of the setting sun; the bright plastic floral tablecloths at a roadside puesto; and the hummingbirds buzzing in my garden in San Cristóbal all appear in this collection. Florecer is a Spanish word with no direct English equivalent—it means to bloom in a literal sense, but also to thrive and to prosper. Guided by that energy of flourishing and flowering, I have enjoyed creating these abundantly colorful designs.
